Discover The Moniaive Chocolatiers
Liz Cole established The Moniaive Chocolatiers in the quaint village of Moniaive in Dumfries and Galloway, South West Scotland, in September 2009 after graduating with a diploma in chocolatiering from Ecole Chocolat in Vancouver, BC, where she was awarded with the title of valedictorian of her year.
Liz moved her business to Thornhill’s thoroughfare, 8 miles east of Moniaive, where she has a large, elegant and open-plan shop opposite The Pegasus Monument. The chocolates are made on site so customers get a vivid insight into the chocolate-making process here. People have commented on the ressemblance of the shop to the one owned by Juliette Binoche’s character, Vianne Rocher, in Hallström’s film ‘Chocolat’.
All chocolates are organic, fairly-traded and bespoke. The filled chocolates are Liz’s unique recipes and consist of fresh ingredients, many of which are local such as single malt whisky from The Creative Whisky Company based in Thornhill and honey from Stonely Smallholding in Closeburn.
The Moniaive Chocolatiers has held the trademark for ‘The World’s First Tartan Chocolate’ for several years.
Clients of the business include Vivienne Westwood, The Scottish Parliament, The Duke of Buccleuch, Dumfries House, The Royal Yacht Britannia, The Wallace Monument, Stirling and Alex Kapranos – lead singer of the band ‘Franz Ferdinand’.
The Moniaive Chocolatiers also caters for clan gatherings, weddings, conferences, gift shops, travel agents and luxury hotels.
We are a bespoke business, which means that we can tailor chocolates to your exact requirements. We can design bars with your family tartan or create a unique combination of flavours you can’t find anywhere else! Her portfolio includes: chocolate guitars for the Moniaive Folk Festival; white chocolates filled with a Jack Daniels ganache for Christmas; fresh raspberry filled white chocolate golf balls for wedding favours.
